Set up your smartphone for international travel

You no longer need to contact us before leaving the country to set up your smartphone for international travel. Now, when you get to your international destination and turn on your device, you'll receive a text message with a link to purchase an International Day Pass providing unlimited talk, text and basic data with 2GB of high-speed data starting at just $20 per day.

Are you traveling to Canada or Mexico? If so, the following plans include calls to and from the U.S., Canada and Mexico, along with included data and messaging while in Canada and Mexico: Everybody Deal Plus, Everybody Deal All-In, and More Unlimited. No International Day Pass is required when you get to your destination.

Sign in to your online account to switch to the Everybody Deal Plus or Everybody Deal All-In plan for included coverage in Canada and Mexico.* Make sure to select the option for your plan change to take effect immediately rather than at your next billing cycle.

*If you're switching to Everybody Deal Plus or Everybody Deal All-In to take advantage of international calling to and from Canada, Mexico, and the U.S., please review your account for any existing multi-line discounts. Changing plans may impact those discounts and could result in higher monthly charges on other lines.

Enable Data Roaming on your device before leaving the country:

iOS Devices - Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Toggle Data Roaming On

Android Devices - Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Toggle Data Roaming On

For older devices, please check these settings before traveling internationally. Skip the step(s) that are not available on your device.

Older iOS Devices (iPhone 11 and earlier)

Step 1:

Go to the Settings Menu > Tap Cellular > Tap SIM Applications > Tap C Spire Global > Tap Select Mode > Tap Automatic

Step 2:

Go back to the Settings Menu > Tap Cellular > Tap Cellular Data Options > Tap Roaming > Turn OFF International CDMA

Older Android Devices (Galaxy 21 and earlier)

Step 1:

Search the Apps on your device > Open the SIM Toolkit app > Tap CSPIRE Global > Tap Select Mode > Tap Automatic

Step 2:

Go to Device Settings > Tap Connections > Tap Mobile Networks > Tap Select Network Mode > Make sure GLOBAL is selected

International Dialing Tips (outside of the U.S.)

Calling a U.S. number:

Dial the plus sign (+), the U.S. country code (1) and the 10-digit number. Press and hold the zero key (0) to dial the plus sign (+).

Checking Voice Mail:

Dial the plus sign (+), the U.S. country code (1) and your 10-digit wireless number. Press the star key (*) as soon as you hear your outgoing message. Roaming charges (if applicable) apply when checking your voice mail while outside of the U.S.

Texting a U.S. number:

Enter the U.S. country code (1) and the 10-digit number of the recipient. Roaming charges (if applicable) apply when sending or receiving text messages while outside of the U.S.

Calling between countries:

Dial the plus sign (+), the destination country code and the phone number. Press and hold the zero key (0) to dial the plus sign (+).
