Company activates Severe Weather Protocol, stages crews and equipment to keep customers connected
RIDGELAND, Miss. (Oct. 8, 2026) – As Hurricane Isaias grows in strength and approaches the Gulf Coast, C Spire is preparing its network to keep families and communities connected for the storm's anticipated landfall this weekend.
C Spire activated its Severe Weather Protocol on Tuesday. Technicians and restoration teams are on standby, and the company is staging network resources and personnel for rapid deployment, including portable generators, fuel, and supplies. Backup batteries and generators are in place at most network sites, and teams are monitoring the network around the clock from the C Spire network experience center. C Spire is also coordinating with state and local emergency management agencies, cities, and law enforcement.
"Our network has proven time and time again to be resilient in the face of severe weather," said C Spire SVP and Chief Network Officer Alan Jones. "We know how important it is for the families, first responders, and communities that depend on us for their connectivity to have reliable service during severe weather. Our team is ready to respond at a moment's notice with the people, equipment, and plans needed to keep our customers connected."
C Spire prepares its fiber and wireless networks and its workforce year-round for severe weather. The company regularly updates its emergency preparedness plans and holds drills throughout the year to test the readiness of its network, team members, and backup systems. The most recent test of this preparedness came during Winter Storm Fern in January, when more than an inch of ice fell across northern Mississippi. As commercial power outages impacted communities across the service area, C Spire's backup power systems helped keep roughly 420 wireless sites online, supported by more than 200 generators and battery backup resources.
The company's workforce and network resources are on "high alert," and C Spire is ready to activate its Emergency Response Plan, which guides the deployment of resources and personnel during a crisis.
From a customer perspective, here are a few simple steps to prepare and help stay connected:
- • Fully charge phones and other mobile devices.
- • Charge portable battery packs and keep them easily accessible.
- • Enable low-power mode to extend battery life if power is lost.
- • Use text messaging when possible.
- • Keep emergency alerts enabled on your device.
"Preparation is everything," said Jones. "We are focused on having the right people, the right equipment, and the right plans in place ahead of time so we can respond quickly and help our communities withstand the storm and aid in recovery."
