C Spire Wireless Cuts Communication Clutter For Needy Florida Family on Designing Spaces™ on Lifetime TV

2013-04-10

Wireless carrier provides personalized technology advice and devices to family on “Spaces of Hope - Rebuilding Together” special makeover series

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL (April 10, 2013) -C Spire Wireless™, the only wireless provider in the U.S. that offers consumers and businesses a suite of personalized services, is featured on an episode of the popular home improvement show Designing Spaces™ helping a needy Florida family receiving a home makeover with their personal communications and technology needs.

Designing Spaces travels around the country redefining and redesigning spaces by incorporating design trends, do-it-yourself projects and step by step home improvements. The episode featuring C Spire Wireless will air on Lifetime TV on Thursday, April 11 at 7:30 a.m. EST/PST and is the second part of a three-episode “Spaces of Hope- Rebuilding Together” series. The special series will be rebroadcast on Lifetime on May 17, 24 and 31.

When the Broward County Sheriff’s Office found south Florida resident Joy Stewart and her four grandchildren living in a run-down home with little food, no heat, no running water and no electricity, they asked the community for help. Stewart had rescued the children from the New York foster care system after her daughter was no longer able to care for them due to drug addiction problems. Since then, Stewart has struggled to keep the family afloat due to limited financial resources and poor living conditions.

Rebuilding Together of Broward County, a local affiliate of the nation’s largest non-profit group committed to revitalizing homes and communities, teamed up with Designing Spaces™ to renovate a foreclosed home signed over to Stewart and C Spire partnered with the cable TV show to help meet some of their communication and technology needs.

During the episode, Chauncey Wilson, program manager for C Spire Wireless, meets with Designing Spaces™ host Debi Marie and Stewart on location to help the south Florida family personalize their communications and technology in the home.

“With more than 2 million apps now available for smartphones and tablets and with more than 1,200 new apps debuting every day, the discovery and personalization process can be difficult, challenging and time consuming as consumers use these devices to read, watch movies, listen to music and otherwise manage their personal and work lives,” Wilson said.

One technology solution that Wilson shared with the family is called SCOUT, which helps solve the information overload problem for some consumers by providing personalized app, movie, book and music recommendations with convenient links to download content. The company used the app to help develop a series of personalized app packs for each member of the Stewart family.

Wilson also introduced the Stewart family to NEWSLINK, a personalized news and information delivery service that finds news and information that is relevant to individuals and delivers it daily across multiple devices.

Finally, the company shared its plans to soon introduce the world’s first comprehensive online content personalization tool called Vū. The free service is simple to use, easy to navigate and works on any device that has access to the Internet – tablets, smartphones, laptops and desktops. Vū follows users on their online journey and learns about their personal lifestyle, interests and delivers relevant, personalized content from all of their favorite sources.

In addition to development of the personalized app packs and a customized web page to house digital content, the company donated two tablets to the family along with a gift card to a major technology retailer.

“We hope these tools will help Joy manage her life, her family and her household more easily and enable her to enjoy the benefits of technology at the same time,” Wilson said. “When consumers get to personalize their experience and interaction with technology, it ensures that they receive relevant, timely and valuable content that is most meaningful to them.”

“We’re thrilled to have C Spire Wireless on board as a valued partner in this special series. Their generous gifts of technology to the family will definitely help improve the quality of their day-to-day lives,” says Lysa Liemer, Designing Spaces™ on Lifetime Executive VP of Programming and Chief Operating Officer.
