The Need

CGB Enterprises, Inc. is a global provider of grain and transportation services headquartered in Covington, Louisiana. Founded in 1969, CGB, Inc. now operates a global enterprise with more than 1,500 employees overseeing a diverse family of businesses that competes in the global marketplace.

In the fall of 2020, as CGB, Inc.’s technology leadership considered the health of their security posture, concern for the human element was a recurring theme. “Eventually, someone will click on something they shouldn’t, provide credential they shouldn’t or plug something in they shouldn’t,” said Gus Gelpi, VP of IT for CGB Enterprises, Inc. "I don't think we can get around that, so I believe that the next step becomes building the tools to defend against that threat."

The IT team at CGB, Inc. knew they needed a more robust security eco-system that would isolate their 400 servers, isolate workloads, and limit communication laterally inside the network. That’s when they called on Cisco Gold Partner C Spire Business.

Cisco Secure Workload is a powerful micro-segmentation solution for us.

The Solution

CGB, Inc.’s longtime IT partner C Spire Business developed a security strategy that not only segments the traffic on their network but also combines CGB, Inc.’s additional Cisco security solutions under one consolidated, annualized agreement that cuts costs, enhances support and increases usage flexibility.

Included in CGB, Inc.’s Cisco Security Enterprise License Agreement is Secure Workload, a micro-segmenting solution that provides visibility into application components, communications and dependencies to enable implementation of a zero-trust model to protect their application assets. It helps contain lateral movement within the data center and increases the efficiency of data center operations.

“Cisco Secure Workload is a powerful micro-segmentation solution for us,” said Steve Kitzinger, Director of IT Operations, CGB Enterprises, Inc. “The tools in our Cisco Security ELA allow us to be much more secure in our operations while being nimble enough to use shared environments.”
