- Sign in to or register for your C Spire Home online account and verify that your Home Phone service is active.
- If you're using a cordless phone or another type of phone with an external power supply, confirm that the power supply is plugged in. If it is plugged in to a power strip, confirm that the power strip is plugged in and turned on.
- If you're using a cordless telephone, make sure that the receiver is fully charged. Leave your cordless phone on its base and allow it to charge for at least 12 hours.
- Confirm your telephone cable is properly connected to both the telephone and the telephone jack in the wall. You should hear a click if the cable is properly inserted into the jack.
- Check the telephone cord to ensure it isn't torn, cut or has exposed wire.
- Find or borrow a phone that you know works. Plug that phone into your phone jack to test if it works. If this new phone works, the problem is most likely with your telephone and not the telephone jack or line. Consult your telephone manual for troubleshooting tips.
- If the problem still exists with a different phone plugged into the jack, unplug all phones and any other devices connected to the telephone line. This includes not only phones but modems, fax machines, automatic dialers, credit card machines, splitters, etc. Wait two minutes then begin by plugging one phone back into the telephone jack. If you hear a dial tone, continue to plug in your other phones and devices one at a time. If the problem comes back, the last item connected to the telephone line is the cause of the problem.
