FTTH Council Selects C Spire Fiber to the Home Internet Technology Initiative in Mississippi for 2015 Star Award

Anaheim, CA (June 30, 2015) – C Spire’s ultra-high speed 1 Gbps (Gigabit per second) Fiber to the Home Internet technology initiative in Mississippi has received the 2015 Star Award from the Fiber to the Home Council Americas (FTTH Council) for helping promote the expansion of consumer broadband access in the U.S.

The announcement was made today at the FTTH Council’s 2015 “Fiber on Fire” Connect Conference in Anaheim, California and follows C Spire’s successful commercial launch of 100 times faster Internet access and related services in three Mississippi cities last fall – just 12 months after announcing the historic initiative.

In presenting the award to C Spire, FTTH Council President Heather Burnett Gold cited the company’s success in making its bold technology vision a reality. “Mississippi is home to the nation’s first statewide Gigabit speed Fiber to the Home project. That’s a terrific accomplishment and one that puts the Magnolia State at the forefront of a growing trend of empowered communities across the nation,” Gold said.

The Ridgeland-based telecom and technology services company turned up service in its fourth city earlier this month and is on track to activate Fiber to the Home services in three additional cities by the end of this year. “C Spire and its partner cities have moved quickly and with purpose to deftly chart the state’s broadband future,” she added. “This is real progress and is due in large part to a unique public-private partnership that uses powerful and positive technological improvements to lift up communities and empower citizens to build better lives. The energy, enthusiasm and excitement among consumers across Mississippi for Gigabit services is palpable.”

Suzy Hays, senior vice president of Consumer Markets for C Spire, said the company is on a mission to move Mississippi up in national rankings for average Internet speeds and consumer access to super-fast broadband services. “Our initiative already represents the largest single deployment of Gigabit infrastructure – in terms of total cities at one time – in North America,” she said.

This is the second award that C Spire has received from the FTTH Council for its next-generation Internet technology initiative in Mississippi. In 2013, the company received the inaugural North American “Gimme Fiber Day” award, which honors the achievements of Professor Charles Kao, who pioneered the use and development of fiber optics in telecommunications, and showcases how fiber optics have positively impacted communities around the world and what policymakers can do to accelerate its deployment and adoption.

“Fiber to the Home is a game-changer and promises to dramatically improve Internet speeds, boost home values, attract investment, create new jobs and improve the quality of life for consumers,” Hays said. “We’re excited about the future and the opportunities we expect this high-tech infrastructure will unlock for the cities who are partnering with us in this historic statewide initiative. The possibilities and opportunities with this type of next-generation Internet access are limited only by our imagination.”

The suite of services, which includes 100 times faster Gigabit Internet access, super HD TV and home phone, are competitively priced with additional discounts for C Spire Wireless customers. Online pre-registration remains open in all of C Spire’s Fiber to the Home cities in Mississippi. To learn more about C Spire’s Fiber to the Home initiative, visit www.cspire.com/fiberhome.
