C Spire Wireless Kicks Off Bright Lights Football #School Spirit Video Contest For High School Students To Display Their Passion
Students Get the Chance to Showcase Their School Spirit by Creating Original School Pride Videos for a Chance to Win $8,000 in School-Based Scholarships
Ridgeland, Miss. (August 15, 2012) – C Spire Wireless, the only wireless provider in the U.S. that offers a suite of personalized wireless services, today announced the kick off this week of a new user generated video contest for nearly 800,000 public and private high school students in Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama as part of the company’s popular Bright Lights high school football rivalry program.
The Bright Lights Football #School Spirit Video Contest gives students at more than 1,200 public and private high schools throughout the three states the chance to create a 1 to 2 minute video showcasing what makes them proud of their school – highlighting everything from sports like football and marching bands to drill teams, cheerleaders, classes and clubs.
While the contest officially starts on Aug. 27, video submissions are being accepted now at www.cspire.com/spirit to give schools the maximum period of time to generate online viewer votes for their individual entries. The contest ends at 12 p.m. on Sept. 30 and the grand prize winning video will be broadcast during the final Bright Lights high school football rivalry game of the 2012 season on Oct. 4 when Picayune visits Pascagoula. Winners in all the categories will be announced during the game.
Individual $1,000 school-based scholarship prizes will be awarded in three categories based on overall student enrollment and criteria that include originality, creativity and viewer votes:
- Schools with up to 500 students
- Schools with between 500 and 1,000 students
- Schools with more than 1,000 students
All schools who submit entries also will be eligible for a $5,000 school spirit scholarship grand prize for the best overall entry and the ultimate bragging rights.
“We know that students, schools and communities have tremendous pride and spirit for their high school athletic and related programs, especially high school football. That pride, passion, enthusiasm and spirit is naturally engrained in our communities, so we’re showcasing those traditions and giving students and fans new ways to experience these rivalries using wireless technology,” said Jim Richmond, director of Corporate Communications for C Spire Wireless. “High schools students throughout our footprint are extremely talented and we look forward to viewing the school spirit videos they’ve created themselves – all for the love of their school. We’re thrilled to be offering school-based scholarships for the contest winners.”
Now in its fourth year, Bright Lights Football is C Spire’s original sports programming and content delivery program that showcases the drama, passion, community pride and human interest stories around some of the most famous high school football rivalries.
This year, C Spire has arranged to broadcast four of the South’s biggest high school football rivalry games live during prime time in high definition on FOX Sports South, reaching up to 12.9 million cable and satellite households in seven Southeastern states for select games.
“C Spire and its Bright Lights Football program has become an important part of the overall excitement our communities have for high school football and the upcoming season,” said Pearl, Mississippi Mayor Brad Rogers, whose hometown Pearl High School will host Jackson Prep, a perennial private school powerhouse, in a classic Sept. 13 public-private school televised clash in prime time on FOX Sports South.
“The #School Spirit video contest is another way our students can get involved in the Bright Lights football program and help focus attention on all of the positive aspects and programs going on at Jackson Prep,” said Susan Lindsay, headmaster at the independent school in suburban Flowood. “We appreciate the scholarships that C Spire is offering for the winners of the school spirit video contest and wish them all the best.”
