How to back up your iPhone device using iCloud

Automatically back up data on your iOS device like your photo library, settings, accounts and other information to your iCloud account in order to keep it secure and accessible for restoring your device with. iCloud will automatically back up when your device is plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi. Turn this feature on by following the steps below.

  1. From the home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap your account or sign in using your Apple ID.
  3. Tap iCloud.
  4. Tap iCloud Backup.
  5. Turn on iCloud Backup. Your device will automatically back up when it is locked, connected to power, and to Wi-Fi.

    Tap Back Up Now to manually back up your device when it is locked, connected to power, and to Wi-Fi.
  6. Moving Content to New Phone. Once your old device is backed up, you can download your content to your new phone. While setting up your new device for the first time, select "Restore from iCloud" when the option appears. Log in with the iCloud account from your old device and your content will begin to download.

How to back up your Android phone

Back up your Android device to an online account to keep your account data safe by following the steps below.

Note: The following guide applies to all Android devices, but some steps and menu names may be different. For a tutorial specific to your device, check our Interactive tutorial or include your device model name in the question.

  1. Find your Settings app and open it.
  2. Look for the Backup & reset menu and tap it.
  3. Find and tap the menu option named Back up my data, then turn it on.
  4. Go back, find and tap the menu option named Backup account, then select or add the account you want to back up your device to.
  5. Your device will now periodically backup to the online account.
  6. Moving Content to New Phone. Once your old device is backed up, you can download your content to your new phone. While setting up your new device for the first time, select "Restore from Backup" when the option appears. Log in with the account from your old device and your content will begin to download.

Before trading in your old device, inspect it for the following:

  • It must work. Make sure it powers on, unlocks, and navigates to the home screen.
  • No broken front or back glass.
  • No cracks or dead spots on the screen.
  • No liquid damage or corrosion.
  • No modifications or disassembly.

Back it up first to save your photos, contacts, etc.
(This step isn't required but it's highly recommended.)

Confirm that the device meets the criteria outlined above.
iPhone/iPad owners: Read below too!

Send old device

Send your old device to us using the envelope provided in your new device shipment.
If your device meets the requirements for trade-in, a credit will be applied within 45 days after we receive it.

This next part is really, really important for iPhone/iPad owners.

Remove the passcode lock:

Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Turn Passcode Off

Delete iCloud and turn off Find My iPhone/iPad:

Settings > iCloud > Sign Out > Delete From [Device] > Delete From My [Device] > Type in your password and click "Turn Off" to remove the iCloud account and turn off Find My iPhone/iPad.

If you don't complete both of these steps, you won't receive a trade-in credit.

Having Trouble after following the Activation steps? Take these Troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Power the New Device OFF
  2. WHILE YOUR NEW PHONE IS STILL POWERED OFF:
  • If you have not visited cspire.com/activate to complete the order - DO THIS NOW, Your device will not activate or function properly until this is done.
  • Ensure that your SIM Card is properly Inserted
    • If you received a NEW SIM Card in your box, ensure this has been inserted into the phone.
    • If this is a replacement device and you did not receive a new SIM CARD, remove your SIM from the Old Device and Insert it into the New Device.
  1. Time to attempt to activate again. Hit the Power on button to begin powering the device up and set it down/do not touch the phone for the next 15 minutes, or until the device activates. Any actions taken on the phone until activation completes may interrupt the activation process.
Most devices will activate within 2-3 minutes; however, some can take up to 15 minutes to complete. Once complete, you will receive a message on your device that the UICC or SIM card is activated in the phone.
DO NOT place a phone call before you get the Activated message DO NOT continuously power cycle the device DO NOT remove and reinsert the SIM card repeatedly DO NOT place the SIM card in another device
If the device is stuck on "Searching" or "No Service," it will not have a connection required to activate. This could be caused by a device issue or an area with no service.
